Karen is the CEO of Shelter NSW, the State’s housing policy peak. Karen’s 28 year career spans the UK and Australia including executive and senior roles in NSW State Government in strategy, reform, strategic policy, partnerships and service improvement. In 2010 Karen joined the executive team at SGCH as GM of Housing Services and Renewal, during a time of major growth in the sector, where she led the social and affordable housing strategy, policy and delivery; business and service improvement; placemaking, innovation and impact measurement. More recently as GM of Group Business Initiatives Karen led SGCH business growth strategy.  In these roles Karen led many innovative partnership initiatives including the Youth Foyer Project, the Bonnyrigg PPP, Smart Street Community Hub and the Group’s Social Impact Framework. 

Karen qualified as a Social Worker in the UK, holds a Masters in Social Policy (UWS) and an Executive Masters in Public Administration (ANZSOG-USyd/UNSW). She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an Associate of the Institute of Public Policy and Governance at UTS. Karen is President of the Board of Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.
