Maree McKenzie has been the CEO at Homes North Community Housing since 2007 and has overseen the transformation of the organisation from a small provider managing 150 properties to one now managing over 1,000 properties across the New England and North West of NSW, 269 of which are owned by the Company.
Previously Maree worked with Housing NSW for over 12 years in various positions, ranging from leading community renewal projects to managing front line services.
Maree is committed to the growth and development of strong not-for-profit businesses through alternative methods that don’t follow the traditional merger model. To this end Maree was one of the founding members of the Housing Alliance, which is a working partnership of 3 mid-sized social housing providers committed to achieving outcomes for regional communities through cost-sharing initiatives, joint procurement and tendering. The Housing Alliance also allows the 3 member organisations to participate in research and innovation activities. To this end the alliance is currently developing, in partnership with a respected UK economist, the Australian Social Value Bank which will provide robust financial proxies for 60 well-being indicators. The “bank” aims to enhance the capacity of organisations to allocate budgets to maximise benefits to individuals, compare impacts and understand return on investments.
